Dashlane offers private and secure password management that works on most operating systems and browsers and will even sync between devices. And it's not just for passwords – Dashlane will also store and sync your payment information (like credit cards) and personal details, filling those in whenever you need them.
And while it can be unnerving to store that much personal data out in the cloud, Dashlane has gone to great lengths to ensure your information is secure and private. Even if their servers are hacked, your data is encrypted and cannot be read by anyone but you. But with so many other password managers available now, does Dashlane bring anything unique to the table?
Dashlane features
Here's what Dashlane has to offer.
- Top of the line privacy
- Security breach alerts
- Form autofill
Dashlane product rating: 2.7 stars
Dashlane scores well in our product comparison, but lacks in a few ways. Dashlane supports most operating systems and devices, it's a bit difficult to figure out exactly how it works, or if it will work with your specific device. The documentation leaves a lot to be desired, and the website is a little more convoluted than it is helpful.
Rating methodology
To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

The pros of Dashlane
Dashlane has a number of things that make it worth considering as your password management solution.
High grade security
With whitepapers available explaining (in great detail) how its privacy and security features work, Dashlane has clearly put a lot of thought into how it manages and protects your personal information. Not only are their servers very difficult to hack into, even if they do suffer a breach, your information is all encrypted, so it can't be read by anyone else.
Not just for passwords
Dashlane isn't just for passwords – you can store other personal information in there, such as your driver's license, social insurance number, and credit card information. That data is similarly well protected against hacking and snooping, and will be synced and available on all of your devices. Dashlane will even autofill that information into web forms if you allow it to.
30 day premium free trial
If you want to take Dashlane for a test drive, you can get a free 30 day premium subscription to try it out. While it would be nice for something like this to have a free trial of 60 days so you could test it with a wider array of websites, 30 days is pretty generous.
Email and live chat support
If you need help with Dashlane you're able to get support from the team through email or via live chat on their website. And while they don't advertise it on their website, there is a @DashlaneSupport account on Twitter where their team often helps people out. Unfortunately, there is no live phone support, but that's not really unusual.
Different versions available
Dashlane offers different versions that address different sorts of needs. Premium gives you sync across unlimited devices, plus bundles in some premium security tools. The Family version supports up to 10 members, managed under one plan. There are also two business versions available if you need something for work.
The cons of Dashlane
A few words of caution to keep in mind.
Recent switch from app to the cloud is getting poor reviews
Reading through some of the more recent app store reviews of Dashlane may make you reconsider using this service. A large number of long-time users are unhappy with the new version, claiming that sync is unreliable, among other things. If you're unsure whether to give it a shot, you might want to dig around some of the reviews first.
The free version has been discontinued
While there used to be a free version of Dashlane, it's been discontinued.
Live chat support is limited
While live chat support through their website exists, it only exists Monday through Friday, from 9:00am until 6:00pm Eastern Time. That said, they do offer live chat in English, French, and German, which is more than others have to offer.
Documentation isn't great
Trying to research Dashlane was a bit of a slog. Their default website is too clever by half, assuming that you just want to install Dashlane on whatever browser you're using, rather than letting you choose yourself. And the main page is incredibly sparse, making it difficult to find any real information. We had to resort to using Google to find the features, pricing, support information and all the rest, when this stuff really should be presented front and centre for interested users.
