For some of us, online grocery shopping has become an essential service in our lives. We can’t go back to the days of wandering grocery store aisles searching for what we need. Not only is the convenience of these services tough to beat, but they also save us time, money, and patience.

Voilà is one of many online grocery store services in Canada. They partner with Sobeys, Safeway, and IGA grocery stores to provide fresh grocery delivery and curbside pickup services. Here’s our review of their features, and what the service does well (and not so well).

Voilà product rating: 4.5 stars

Voilà does grocery services well. They have a freshness guarantee or it’s free – a promise that ensures products like ice cream will still be frozen upon arrival or pickup. Service satisfaction also ranks high with consumers. Their delivery team is known to be friendly and to show up on time during the one-hour delivery window.

With that said, Voilà's partners have a higher price point than bargain grocers, such as Walmart, and they only offer delivery in select areas. Despite this, Voilà seems like a no-brainer for fans of Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Longo's, or Farm Boy products.

Rating methodology

To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

The pros of Voilà

Voilà grocery service has a lot going for it. Let’s take a look.

Pros

pro Guaranteed fresh groceries

Voilà promises to provide fresh groceries, accomplished through a multi-step temperature monitoring process. They have refrigerated delivery vans and packaging to make sure your food stays frozen. If your groceries don’t meet your expectations, you can let them know, and they will make it right. This guarantee may help to alleviate any concerns, so that when you get your groceries, it’s like you just picked them yourself.

pro Prompt, professional, and friendly delivery service

The delivery drivers have reportedly been professional, friendly, and on time. Whenever you’re anticipating a home delivery, it’s helpful to know they'll be there during the scheduled hour so you’re not stuck waiting around. The delivery team calls in advance to make sure you’re home to receive your groceries. And when they arrive, they carry the goods to your doorstep.

pro Delivery pass for regular shoppers

For avid Sobeys, IGA, or Farm Boy shoppers, there’s something called a Delivery Pass available in the Greater Toronto/Hamilton area and Quebec. It’s a way to help save on regular grocery deliveries. You can pay for a 1-month, 3-month, 6-month, or 12-month subscription, and choose between an anytime pass or a midweek pass (subject to terms and conditions. Visit Voila.ca for details). The anytime pass gets you delivery 7 days a week, whereas the midweek pass gets you delivery on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

pro Promotions for new customers

Voilà often runs promotions for new customers that usually help you a good chunk of change on your first few orders. In fact, Voilà is running the following promotions until May 31, 2025:

  • Receive $15 off your first 3 orders (curbside pickup) using promo code: VOILACURBSIDE
  • Receive $15 to $20 off your first 4 orders (delivery) using promo codes: VOILAFRESH15 (Ontario), VOILAFRAIS15 (Quebec), and VOILAFIRST (Alberta)

Note that these promo codes are only for new Voilà customers, valid for one-time use, and must have a minimum order of $75 to qualify. All offers subject to terms and conditions. See voila.ca for details.

The cons of Voilà

What should you know before trying Voilà? Here’s our rundown of what to look out for.

Cons

con Grocery store prices on the high end

If you’re ordering online groceries from Voilà, be prepared to pay higher prices. Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, and Farm Boy typically charge more for groceries than, say, No Frills or Walmart, anyway, and online shopping at these grocers is no different.

con Delivery isn't available everywhere

Right now, Voilà delivery services are available in select cities. These include Calgary, Edmonton, Quebec City, Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa. Luckily, curbside pickup is available in most provinces, allowing you to pick up your grocery order at select locations.

FAQ

How does Voilà work?

Voilà works like most other grocery services. You shop for groceries on the Voilà website or mobile app and select a time slot for delivery or curbside pickup. For delivery, you'll receive a phone call from the delivery drivers before they arrive to make sure you’re there to accept your order. Curbside pickup works by choosing a pickup location when you checkout online, driving to the location during your time slot, parking in a designated stall and calling the pickup phone number, and the curbside team will bring your groceries to your car.

What is the Voilà delivery area?

Voilà delivers to the Greater Toronto and Hamilton area, Greater Montreal area, Ottawa, Quebec City, Calgary, and Edmonton. Curbside pickup is available in the following provinces: AB, MB, NB, NL, NS, ON, PE, and SK.

Can you use a Sobeys gift card at Voilà?

No, Sobeys gift cards can only be used on in-store purchases and not online grocery delivery. You also can’t do the following online: activate or reload your gift card, or check your card balance.

What is Voilà delivery fee?

Voilà's delivery varies from $0 to $9.99, depending on the time slot you choose. Generally, delivery prices are slightly higher during the day than in the evenings. The prices also change based on the day of the week. Shoppers can purchase a subscription pass for 1, 3, 6, or 12 months to help cover the cost of delivery fees.

The best
Not sure what some of these low ratings are about. My groceries with Voila are always on time. I have placed over 50 orders with them and have yet to find a fault. Once I got a bad fruit, customer service refunded it the same day. You can add your Scene+ number to your account and points get added automatically. You can also spend points to pay for your order. Easy peasy. There are many items on sale every week. After selecting my delivery slot, stock availability is 99% accurate. No surprises with missing items like with other services that don’t keep track of inventory. Highly recommended!

Horrible company !!
Ordered groceries yesterday to be delivered between 5pm-6pm tonight. I even paid $3.99 for this specific time slot, as my boyfriend and I had errands to run. Anyways, 7pm rolls around and my groceries still aren't here. Nor did I receive any phone calls/emails regarding their whereabouts. I called the customer service representative who had no idea what happened, and no reasoning for why my groceries never arrived. He said he will reach out to the delivery staff and call me back with an answer. Well 2 more hours go by (its 9:30pm now) so I call back. He again, puts me on hold while he attempts to figure out where the delivery staff is, and why they havent shown up yet. He then comes back on the line to say "They are on their way. They had a busy day today". I said "Respectfully sir, I know this isnt your fault, but as a first-time customer, I am very annoyed and this experience makes me never want to use your services again." And instead of an apology, or an offer to remedy the situation, the man says "Okay. Have a good night" and hangs up. It's now 10pm and Im even more annoyed by the lack of empathy shown from customer service, and Im STILL WAITING FOR MY GROCERIES. This has been unacceptable for so many reasons.

Horrible company
Horrible company, do not waste your time, no rewards points for shopping like other companies, they say you have to create a Scene Plus membership that takes forever and keeps crashing , they you have to go pick up a Rewards card, to get points you have to go to the store to scan your card so they can transfer your points. How ridiculous if i have to go to the grocery store, I may as well just do my shopping. Alot of mistakes on ordering, produce and meat not fresh at all. If I could give it a 0 Star I would

does not worth it
Customer service takes 3-4 days to reply, while most other companies respond in a few hours. I'm still waiting for a response to a simple question. Also, it seems products labeled as cheap or on sale are often out of stock after I order them, leading to refunds.
