Our rating for Questwealth: 4.2 stars

Questwealth does well to offer you the full range of robo advisor features, including tax-loss harvesting, Socially Responsible Investing (SRI) options, and automatic rebalancing. It's one of the most laid back ways you can invest your money – with some of the lowest fees to boot.

But the fact that it comes with a minimum balance is a bit of a downer, since it limits people who want to test the waters before fully committing.

Rating methodology

To evaluate robo advisors, we analyze over 20 data points to generate a trustworthy Genius Rating. We consider all aspects of a robo advisor, including fees, investment options, minimum investment amount, access to support, perks, customer satisfaction, and promotions, to assess its overall value. What's good about Questwealth

So what do Canadians love about Questwealth?

Pros

pro Some of the lowest fees in Canada

Questwealth's fees are 0.25% when your account is between $250 and $99,999. This goes down to 0.2% once you've passed that threshold. With most other robo advisors hanging around the 0.5% mark, this is impressive. Just keep in mind they also have MERs between 0.17% and 0.22% to worry about.

proCovers transfer fees for any balance

No matter how much money you're moving between accounts, Questwealth will cover your transfer fees for up to $150 in fees. All you need to do is submit a statement from the other company stating the fees within 60 days. Usually robo advisors require a certain amount to be transferred before they cover the fees, so this is an extra point for Questwealth.

proReinvests dividends

Any dividends you receive within your Questwealth investment account will be reinvested automatically. That way, your entire account will be working towards your returns, not just your original investments.

What to watch out for with Questwealth

Despite its low fees, Questwealth still requires a minimum investment and has some extra charges.

Cons

con$1,000 minimum investment

Though relatively low, you'll need $1,000 in your account before your money will start being invested. This could be an obstacle for people who are just getting started. Once you've deposited $1,000, your account balance can go as low as $250 while staying open.

conFees for wire withdrawals

If you're looking to withdraw your funds within 1 - 2 business days, you'll have to do a wire transfer. These transfers are $20 each for Canadian funds. This only gets more expensive if your wires aren't in Canadian – going up to US$30 for a USD wire and $40 for an international wire.
