The biggest selling point of Trupanion is the fact that they cover all accidents and illnesses – including those that are hereditary. They also don't have any tiered plans like most other insurance companies. It all exists under one plan, and you get to decide how much of a deductible you want – which affects the cost of your premium.
But you do have to make sure your pet has no signs of these problems when you begin the application, or that may forfeit the coverage.

Pros
Lifetime, customizable deductible
Having the ability to choose the amount for your deductible is incredibly convenient. Plus, they offer the option to pay the whole thing at once or take care of it with installment payments. Another perk is that Trupanion offers a lifetime per-condition deductible – so you only pay when your pet develops a new condition, not every single time they need medical attention for that condition.
No payout limits
It sounds crazy, but Trupanion actually covers 90% of your pet's medical costs – and there's absolutely no cap on this amount. Many other pet insurance companies around 80% reimbursement, and most have limits to this. But Trupanion offers the best of both worlds: a high reimbursement rate with no limit.
Additional benefit packages
If your pet needs extra medical attention, Trupanion has a package that will cover many different things. Services like acupuncture, behaviour therapy, and even hydrotherapy are included in their Recovery and Complementary Care package.
Direct payment to vets
Trupanion offers Vet Direct Pay, which enables them to pay your vet directly instead of you having to pay and wait to be reimbursed by the insurance company. And while not every vet has this set up, it’s a time-saving feature that’s distinct from other pet insurance providers.

Cons
No coverage for elderly pets
If you have a dog or cat that's 14 years old or more, you're out of luck with Trupanion. They simply won't cover these aged pets, no matter what their health is like. If you look at the online form for requesting a quote, you'll notice that the dropdown menu for your pet's age only goes as high as 13.
High prices
Getting your pet's medical bills 90% covered is only helpful if you're not paying out the nose for the policy to begin with. Trupanion has some of the most expensive rates out there.
