Crave allows you to watch TV and movies from HBO, HBO Max, Showtime and more. It was also one of the first streaming platforms to offer integration with cable providers, making it super easy to subscribe and watch.

Users have their choice of subscription tiers that determine video streaming quality, downloading capabilities, and live channel access. These tiers and add-ons can get quite pricey when compared to those of other streaming services, but the unique content is often worth the cost.

Crave product rating: 3.4 stars

Cravehas a lot going for it, but what really sets it apart from the competition is its exclusive partnerships with HBO and HBO Max. This includes blockbuster shows like Game of Thrones, The Last of Us, and The Sopranos – content that you won't find anywhere else in Canada.

Having access to these shows comes at a steep price, though. And if you decide to save some pennies by going with the Basic teir, you'll be watching a lot of ads.

Rating methodology

To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

The pros of Crave

This TV subscription has a few notable benefits, including these:

Pros

proExtensive entertainment library

Crave packages a wide variety of content into its subscription, giving you great value. This includes thousands of hours of original movies and TV shows from HBO, HBO Max, Showtime, and some excellent Crave originals. You can watch STARZ programming too, for an extra fee. Although you won't find live sports, there is sports-centred content, including documentaries.

proCanadian content

The library of Canadian content is impressive. Whether you're looking for content featuring Canadian stars, slapstick comedies about rural Canadian life, Quebec-based programming, or stories featuring Indigenous life and characters, you'll find it on Crave.

proFrench language content

Part of the Canadian content includes French language programming too. This includes sitcoms, documentaries, game shows, reality tv, dramas, and more, all filmed in the French language – no subtitles needed.

proBilingual display options

Another distinctly Canadian feature that Crave offers is the ability to change your user interface from English to French, or vice versa. Each profile associated with your account can change this setting, in fact, so everyone can browse in their preferred language. It's a very nice touch.

The cons of Crave

These are a few details to keep in mind when considering a Crave subscription:

Cons

conLots of ads

A common complaint from users is that Crave has a lot of ads. Plus, the same ads seem to repeat themselves throughout the same program, which can make them even more annoying. Unfortunately, only one of the pricing tiers ( the most expensive one) offers ad-free streaming.

conPrices are high

Put simply, Crave isn't cheap. Your most economical choice is to pay annually for a Basic subscription, which works out to $8.32/month. This is higher than Netflix's Standard-with-ads plan ($18.99/month), and doesn't offer nearly as many features and perks as Amazon Prime Video does for just $14.99/month.

Crave Subscription
DO NOT SUBSCRIBE to Crave TV, First of all they make sure to take the money out your account for subscriptions where the consumer still has to keep upgrading to watch certain programs From Basic ($12.99 - $13.49 w taxes) to Standard ($15.99 - $16.79 w taxes) and then to Premium ($22.00). So now I'm out $16.79 for this Crave Subscription which I canceled the same day and now I am being charged until October 2, 2025 for a subscription I'm not interested in anymore or even going to watch!!

Complete Scam, Horrible Customer Service
Hard To Use
If I could give Crave zero stars I would. I foolishly signed up for the one year basic plan. I am about 5 months in. I have had nothing but issues. It does not work on our main smart TV or on our phones and has constant freezing and lagging issues. I tried to contact Crave months ago about this and never got a resolution. I tried again today. It is clear that we have not used it because it does not work and they should be able to see that. I was told that in their very fine print in their terms and conditions, it states that they will not give refunds after the service has started and apparently it also states in fine print that it does not work on certain TVs and devices without subscribing to the expensive $22 premium plan. Their only option was for me to pay an extra $22 to upgrade to the premium monthly plan and they would refund me $24 even though I would have paid well over $80 (after they told me it was against their terms to refund). I did not pay the extra $22 as I had trust issues and did not want to risk being out over $100 at this point. They saw this as me not wanting to resolve the issue and closed the conversation. I tried to work with them for an hour and this was their only resolution. Conclusion: Crave is a scam. It does not work on most devices (unless you have the premium version), they do not issue refunds apparently and their customer service is horrendous.

Terrible add placement
The adds for the lower tier options are misplaced by a few seconds from where the logical spot would be in the show. Crave also cuts the last 2-3 minutes of shows and doesn’t let you go back to watch it. The with add versions are very annoying and not worth it.

Shady business
Okay To Use
Do not subscribe. Terrible customer service I had a promo four months at 30% off On month 3, an auto payment didn’t go through so they instantly cancelled my subscription and promo. I called the next day to resolve and they refused to offer any solution to regaining the promo for the following 2 months. This is crazy as no other streaming service acts this way. They always email you to give you a chance to rectify the rejected payment. There was nowhere stated in the promo terms that a rejected payment would result in the cancellation of the promo offer. When requesting proof, a supervisor named Toni refused to offer any proof that this is part of Crave’s terms (they obviously don’t exist). They refused to offer any credit to offset the extra I would be charged. These are certainly underhanded practices and may be borderline illegal At the very least, they have terrible customer service and do nothing to make things right for customers

Not worth the money.
So many bugs. It skips episodes, or disconnects multiple times during an episode. Not worth the money. The content isn't super great either.
