With a long and storied history, the Globe and Mail is one of Canada's most widely read newspapers. Reaching over 6 million readers every week, the G&M covers stories and news of interest to people across all of Canada, where most other newspapers are much more focused on local or regional news. And, as a venerable Canadian institution, you know it's news you can trust.
The Globe and Mail offers both digital and print subscriptions, but we've focused on the digital-only option here. It's also the Canadian distributor for the New York Times and offers discounts on both digital or print edition subscriptions.

Globe and Mail product rating: 2.3 stars
The Globe and Mail covers news from across all of Canada, from coast to coast to coast. And while it does have a fairly heavy focus on business and investing topics, the newspaper has a variety of other sections, including sports, life, arts, and real estate. There are also more focused current feature sections that collect the news of the day.
The only drawbacks to the Globe And Mail are that it's not published on Sunday and that it has a relatively steep regular subscription price. In this day and age, many people expect to get their news for free, but sometimes it's worth paying a bit more to get something a lot better.
Rating methodology
To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

The pros of a Globe and Mail digital subscription
A Globe and Mail digital subscription has a number of clear benefits.
Pay only $0.49 a week for the first 24 weeks
If you buy a Globe digital subscription, you only have to pay $0.49 a week for the first 24 weeks of your subscription, for a total of $1.96 in the first six months. There's a lot of value to be had for that weekly dollar.
Unlimited access across all devices
With a digital subscription, you get full access to everything the Globe and Mail publishes, including archives, across all your devices. That's over 2,800 new stories each month that you can read on your laptop, smartphone, or tablet.
Exclusive member benefits
Globe and Mail digital subscriptions include exclusive member benefits, including access to unique experiences, tools, guides, and more.
Access to investing tools
With a strong focus on business and investing, the Globe and Mail has a number of useful investment tools, including their Portfolio, Watchlist, Company Pages, Stock Reports, and Stock Screener tools.
Newsletters so you never miss a thing
We all have busy lives, and the Globe and Mail recognizes this. To make life a little easier, you can subscribe to a variety of Globe and Mail newsletters that will send the most important features of the day right to your inbox. Newsletters include Breaking News, Evening Update, Politics Briefing, Top Business Headlines, and more.
Audio versions of articles
Prefer to listen to your news? The Globe and Mail makes audio versions of their articles available for your listening convenience in English, French, and Mandarin. You can even set up your own playlist by bookmarking select articles and queuing those up to listen to on your commute, while you're making dinner, or when you take the dog out for a long walk.
Discount on New York Times subscriptions
If Canadian news isn't enough for you, the Globe and Mail is also the Canadian distributor for the New York Times, offering discounts on both digital and print subscriptions.
The cons of a Globe and Mail digital subscription
Of course there are a couple of drawbacks you'll want to consider as well.
The regular subscription price is a bit steep
When your first year is up and the promotional pricing changes, you'll be paying $7.99 per week for digital-only access. That's a huge jump and can be quite a shock to your budget.
Doesn't publish on Sunday
Where some Canadian newspapers publish all week long, the Globe and Mail does not put out a Sunday edition. This may be disappointing for the more avid news hounds in the world.
