Sportsnet+ is Rogers Media’s live sports streaming service, launched in 2016 as an extension of the Sportsnet brand that’s been a staple in Canadian sports broadcasting since 1998. Designed for fans who want to cut the cord, Sportsnet+ gives subscribers access to live NHL, MLB, NBA, and other major league games, plus an impressive lineup of women’s sports including the WNBA, FA Women’s Super League, and FIBA competitions.

Subscribers can choose between Standard and Premium packages, with monthly or annual payment options. While pricing starts at $24.99 a month—higher than some general streaming platforms—the ability to watch across multiple devices, replay and restart games, and access bonus content like Tim & Friends, Blue Jays In Thirty, and Sportsnet Presents documentaries helps make it worthwhile for dedicated sports fans.

Sportsnet+ product rating: 0.9 stars

While Sportsnet+'s pricing is comparable to other sport-specific streaming options, it's still on the high side for streaming services in general. There are a few tiers to choose from, which could save you money, depending on your viewing habits, but the rest of Sportsnet+'s "special" features aren't really all that great.

All that said, it still has a decent 0.9 Genius Rating.

The pros of Sportsnet+

There are plenty of reasons why subscribers love Sportsnet+

Pros

pro Several packages and pricing options available

Viewers can choose between a Standard or Premium Sportsnet+ subscription, and each one comes with the option to pay monthly or annually. It's nice to see that this streaming service cares about your viewing preferences and your bank account.

pro Impressive coverage of women's sports

Obviously, the majority of Sportsnet+'s current content focuses on men's leagues, but women's sports have a solid presence here. Both subscription tiers include coverage of the WNBA, FA Women's Super League, FIBA women's games, and more.

pro Wide variety of devices you can watch on

Because Sportsnet+ knows that people today want to watch TV anywhere and everywhere, they've made their service available through a number of devices. Whether you're a diehard Android lover, a PlayStation fanatic, an Amazon Fire convert, or an Apple TV loyalist, there's a way for you to get your sports fix with Sportsnet+.

pro Content that isn't just games

While the majority of subscribers are paying to watch games and sporting events, it's still nice to have other content available. Sportsnet+'s top shows include Tim & Friends, Blue Jays In Thirty (and other various sports In Thirty), and various Sportsnet Presents documentaries.

The cons of Sportsnet+

Nothing's perfect, and there are a few areas where Sportsnet+ could improve.

Cons

con Lack of NFL coverage

If you're a football lover, a Sportsnet+ subscription isn't going to cut it. And there are a LOT of football fans out there, so this is a big deal. For those who need their NFL fix, it looks like you'll have to shell out the money for cable tv or go with a different sports streaming service.

con There's no Sportsnet+ free trial

It seems like a big oversight on their party that Sportsnet+ doesn't have a free trial available for hopeful subscribers. Nearly all online streaming platforms offer this as most people want to make sure the service is worth paying for before they lock themselves in. The closest you'll get with this service, though, is their 4-month subscription option.

con Watch out for blackouts

For various reasons, some games (including the NHL, MLB, and NBA) featuring some teams aren't available to watch in certain regions. This is because some regional networks and/or channels have exclusive rights to broadcast this content. So, to be fair, this isn't exactly Sportsnet+'s fault, and they are upfront about it. But it's still a downside. You can, of course, always try a VPN service to bypass this issue.

FAQ

Which sports can I watch with a Sportsnet+ subscription?

There's a long list of sports you can watch on Sportsnet+. You'll find NHL games, MLB games, NBA games, and even some women's sports, including WNBA games. However, you won't be able to watch NFL games, which is disappointing. Click here for more information on areas where Sportsnet+ could improve.

What does Sportsnet+ cost?

There are a few pricing options available for Sportsnet+. First, you can choose whether you want a Standard or Premium subscription, then decide whether you want a monthly or annual subscription. A monthly Premium subscription is $34.99 or $249.99 for the year, and a Standard subscription is $24.99 or $199.99 for the year. See how these prices compare to other streaming services here.

Can I cancel Sportsnet+ any time I want?

Yes, you can cancel your Sportsnet+ subscription whenever you want. Depending on your chosen billing frequency, your subscription will end at the end of the month or year in which you initiated the cancellation. If you're an annual subscriber, you'll still have access until your next renewal date, which could be a ways away.

Where can I find the Sportsnet+ schedule?

If you head to the Sportsnet+ website, you'll see "Schedule" in the banner along the top of the page. If you click on it, you'll be taken to a page that lists upcoming games by league. Alternatively, you can also see the Sportsnet+ schedule on the Sportsnet mobile app – just open the app, click open the menu, select Sportsnet+, and you'll find the schedule option along the top of the screen.

Rating methodology

To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

Bills you twice for one month & has no customer service

Who runs this show? Could be so much better
Sportsnet is such a frustrating app to use and it's painfully obvious that the developers do not watch sports on it! Been a customer for 3 years and it keeps getting worse. While its not as bad on an iPad or phone but watching on my TV, it only has slow-mo fast forward. It literally can take 5-10 minutes to fast forward to the 3rd period of a hockey game if you missed it. They used to have different speeds (i.e 2X, 8x, 16x or lightening speed) and then they dropped that feature this past year! Why?? It also constantly drops and watching a game, I can restart 3-5 times....every time having to slowmo fast forward. Today I got home and wanted to watch the OIlers game. Went to the app, picked the replay and it came up with the highlights and a ticket showing the score before I realized. And I cant get into a game when I know the score. This has happened many times before. Who runs this show? Get your crap together. IT could be Soooo much better

Sportsnet blackouts
I live in PEI. I Purchased Sportsnet+ in order to watch sports out of Toronto. I subscribe to Starlink who's IP address is out of Toronto...so....the home games get blacked out. Sportnet can block that out, as long as the IP address does not change. Starlink changes IP address at times, so I get blacked out and Sportsnet won't permanently block the blackouts...what a joke.

Frustrating
Poor streaming. Watching hockey and then freezes for ten to fifteen seconds. Not Impressed at all when watching a live game. Watching baseball is a joke as well. The play by play and the action are always seem to be out of sync. Watching replays of a game is just a joke that I don’t bother to watch anymore. Just watch the highlights.

No selection - Bad streaming
This year I can only watch Local (Canuck) NHL games plus maybe one other random NHL game. NBA games also seem to be random. Usually raptors games are not included. When I am out of town and want to watch Canuck games on my tablet, they don't work. I thought this was supposed to be a sports channel. Most of the time there is no live sports to watch.
