PC Express product rating: 3.9 stars

We’ve given PC Express this rating. It gains points for being widely available, flexible (especially for Torontonians), and cheap.

Rating methodology

To calculate our Genius Ratings, we compare the features of the account or product in question with other similar products in Canada. We give each feature a score out of 5 based on that comparison. Once we’ve rated all the features, we run them through our proprietary algorithm to produce a final rating out of 5.

The pros of PC Express

What are the upsides to PC Express?

Pros

Available across Canada

PC Express is available pretty much anywhere that has one of the Loblaws grocery stores, including: Loblaws, No Frills, Independent, Valu-Mart, Wholesale Club, Real Canadian Superstore, Fortinos, Zehrs, and CityMarket. In select locations, they offer pick up at other Loblaws stores, such as Shoppers Drug Mart. In Toronto, they have a handful of pickup spots conveniently located at transit stations.

Inexpensive for some pickups

If you plan ahead and schedule a pickup for the same or next day, you’ll only pay $1, which is pretty insignificant if it saves you time and money (in impulse purchases you don’t make). Keep in mind that if you need your pickup stat, you’ll pay $5 per pickup—not a huge sum, but not something you want to pay on the regular if you don’t have to.

Good mobile app

PC Express has a well-designed and easy-to-use mobile app for both iPhones and Android devices. This makes it easy to create and place your orders, no matter where you are. It’s highly rated on the App Store with users noting how easy it is to use. That said, the Google Play rating is slightly lower, with several people mentioning technical problems with the app.

Easy to track PC Optimum points

If you connect your PC Optimum account to your PC Express account, you will never have to worry about getting your rewards. Never worry about forgetting to scan your card again. Just shop, pick up or get delivery, and cash out your points as you accumulate them.

Opportunity for annual fee waiver

If you have the PC World Elite Mastercard and sign up for PC Express, your annual PC Express membership fee is waived. Every little bit helps and adds a lot of value to the no-fee World Elite Mastercard.

The cons of PC Express

And the drawbacks.

Cons

Subject to availability

If your local Loblaws grocery store doesn’t carry a particular item, you’re out of luck. They don’t bring items in from other locations to fulfill your order. It’s a little thing, but it would be nice if this were available.

Sometimes substitutions aren’t great

If you’ve ordered something that’s out of stock or otherwise unavailable when your order is fulfilled, they’ll substitute in a similar product at a similar price. These substitutions aren’t always the best (sometimes they’re just wrong), but they do warn you about any substitutions before you pick up your order. You have a chance to either swap something else in, or just refuse the new item altogether.

Delivery fees can be expensive

Can’t make it to the store to pick up your order? To get your order delivered, you’ll pay a service fee plus a delivery fee. This works out to be $5.99 if you want it delivered the next day, $9.99 for same-day delivery, or a whopping $13.99 for priority delivery. The high cost can really eat into your grocery budget, so we’d avoid this method in favour of pickup.

Dont use PC express
Horrible! Got scammed by their shopper/driver who purchased things for themselves and added it to my total. PC did nothing to resolve this, not even an apology.

Almost lost my mind trying to cancel an order
Horrible service, you get pingponged between so many different people to solve an issue and the issue doesnt get solved. Massive regret, worst customer experience service that I've ever had!

Beware PC Express offers
Okay To Use
If you aren't aware, canceliering anything will take up to TEN days to receive. I recently thought I'd take advantage of the $29.99/year offer. I found out the hard way that if you have had a free trial, you don't qualify for the discount. Further, I thought I was only reviewing my options (monthly vs, annual) but, without my confirmation on their website nor subsequent email confirmation , was signed up for an annual pass @ $99.99. I only discovered that by checking my bank account. Contacting customer "service", I was told I could cancel and receive a pro-rated refund. NOT. My annual subscription, which I can't afford, will go on - no refund or actual cancellation. And, you can't actually get in touch with the people who make the decisions - just poorly trained reps.

Poor contact, not keen to deliver
I ordered from Walmart online. The order was not delivered on planned day. They mentioned that receiver is not available, though we all were home with mobiles on. PCLDOM is a non reliable ground delivery.

Takes your money, then no support
After paying P735000 I asked for assistance in downloading data from my old computer to the new one. No assistance or response.
