Unfortunately, Target does not directly ship to Canada in 2023. It only ships to U.S. states, territories, and protectorates.

You might recall Target's short-lived and unsuccessful venture into Canada during the early-to-mid 2010s. While Target is no longer physically present in Canada, there are alternative shipping options for Canadians to shop on Target.com, such as using services like Shipito and Stackry.

To find out more about Target’s history in Canada and alternative ways to get items from its stores, keep on reading!

Key Takeaways

  • Target does not offer direct shipping to Canada in 2023.
  • Canadians can use package forwarding or parcel pickup services to shop on Target.com.
  • Target launched in Canada in 2013 and closed its stores in 2015.
  • As of 2023, Target has not announced plans to return to the Canadian market.

Shipping from US to Canada

As mentioned earlier, you can’t get your products delivered directly from Target to your home in Canada. You can, however, opt for alternative shipping methods, such as package forwarding services or parcel pickup.

A package forwarding service is a company that provides customers with a U.S. address for the delivery of their purchases, which are then forwarded to their international destination, such as Canada. There are several options available online for Canadians, such as:

  • Shipito,
  • Stackry,
  • MyUS,
  • Ship7, and
  • Reship.

Using a package forwarding service can provide:

  • access to U.S.-only deals and products,
  • offer consolidation options to reduce shipping costs, and
  • enable flexibility in cross-border shopping.

On the other hand, you may come up against:

  • expensive shipping fees,
  • additional customs duties and taxes, and
  • longer delivery times due to processing when using such a service.

Ultimately, the choice between these alternative shipping methods depends on your specific needs, budget, and the types of items you're looking to acquire from the United States.

If you live close to the border, you may also choose to use a parcel pickup location, where you can ship your items to a designated location and go pick it up physically in the United States.

Retailers who ship to Canada

If you’re looking to avoid using one of these services, you can check out other known U.S. retailers that ship to Canada. Here are some options to consider.

  • Bloomingdale’s
  • Macy’s
  • Neiman Marcus
  • Amazon.com
  • Barnes & Noble
  • Saks Fifth Avenue

Target’s history in Canada

Target's entry into Canada in 2013 was marked by high expectations but unfortunately ended in failure. Despite the company’s success in the U.S., they rushed entry into the Canadian market, supply chain issues led to empty shelves, prices were higher than expected, and, ultimately, the company struggled to understand Canadian consumer preferences.

After just 2 years, Target withdrew from the country and closed its 130+ stores, citing unsustainable losses.

Target had a short run in Canada that led to a wide array of opinions among Canadians. While some were happy that it left the country, some wish that it never left.

Where do you stand on this matter? Do you miss shopping at Target? And, if so, will you be checking out package forwarding services any time soon?

Yes, I do miss shopping at Target. Like crazy. If they were to relaunch here I'd do it all over again in a heartbeat. (being a regular customer). I had more "tempered" and realistic expectations, not expecting an exact transplant. I wish they never left.
