After yet another year, the 6th annual moneyGenius scholarship is now officially closed.
We evaluated hundreds of entries and arduously narrowed them down to the top 5 and we now have the deserving $2,000 winner!
And the 2025 moneyGenius scholarship winner is…
A huge congratulations to Chanah James, a fourth year student at the University of Toronto!
Chanah is pursuing a degree in pre-law, with a double major in Political Science and Ethics, Society & Law, and a passion to challenge structural barriers and use the practice of law as a vehicle to drive equity.
"My journey toward law has never been driven by prestige—it has always been about purpose. I’ve consistently sought out spaces where I could challenge structural barriers, especially those that disproportionately affect Black communities... This work reaffirmed my belief that law, when practiced with care, can be one of the most powerful tools for equity. It also helped clarify the kind of law I hope to practice: criminal and civil law. These are the areas where injustice is most visible and where legal advocacy can have the most immediate, life-changing impact."
We’re confident that Chanah will continue to excel in their studies and make a meaningful difference in the field of law and beyond.
Why do we run the moneyGenius scholarship?
At moneyGenius, we are huge advocates of education, especially when it comes to finances.
Our ultimate goal is to help everyday Canadians make better financial decisions, inform them about the best products and services for their specific financial needs, and provide practical money knowledge and best practices to keep more money in their pockets. The current economic climate has solidified this vision even more.
On top of it all, we also want to incentivise students to continue their education through our scholarship, and reward their hard work and dedication.

Thank you again to all of the 2024 applicants, as well as all of you who shared the scholarship with friends and family. It’s never (ever) easy to choose just one winner, because there are so many deserving entries.
But if you didn’t win this one, don’t give up. We’ll be running our scholarship program for as long as possible, and 2025 won’t be the exception.
