If you’re looking to gift a Costco membership sometime soon…now may be a good time.

Here are the details.

Buy a Costco gift of membership, get $50

If you purchase a gift of membership before December 27, 2020 – you’ll get a $50 Costco.ca voucher. Just keep in mind you have to be a Costco member to make a purchase on their site.

As an added bonus, this applies to both the Executive and Gold Star memberships.

Since the Costco Gold Star membership is only $60, that’s a huge return on your gift. The Executive membership is double the price, but the voucher is still a nice treat.

Costco membership offer restrictions

One thing to keep in mind is that the $50 voucher has 2 restrictions:

  • It can only be used at Costco.ca, not at the warehouse.
  • It can only be used on purchases of $250 or more.

I have wasted a lot of time pursuing this and finally decided that both your reference to this "deal" and the Costco site are very misleading. You have to be a member first to be able to "gift" another membership. As well, it would have helped if the pics you had of the two types of membership contained a link to take you directly to their site. A waste of time in both instances!

Hey Peter, Very sorry we didn't clarify that you need to be a Costco member in order to make a purchase. We've added mention in the article to prevent this confusion in the future. We've also added a direct link to the site for easy access to the deal.

Do you need to be a member yourself to purchase as a gift for someone?

Hey Jolene, Good question! Just tried this out and it looks like a Costco membership is required to checkout on Costco.ca.

No, I will not be taking advantage of the $50 COSTO voucher offer for gifting new memberships. I was given a $50 voucher for signing up for auto-renewal with costco. But because of the limitation that it can only be used for purchases on costco.ca I chose not to use it(They gave us a 2 week window before voucher expired on Nov 1). Reason is that we had to buy at least $100 to take advantage of it, and since we did not currently need any non-food items(ie, electronics, gardening stuff, beds, vacuums, etc. ), we looked at buying food items. But we noticed that every food item we looked at was each at least $2 to $3 more than if we bought it at warehouse(even the online system warned us that it could probably be obtained cheaper at warehouse). So we would have spent more on items we bought by buying them online than the $50 voucher savings.

Yes giving membership to daughter as they had one previously but dropped it. Want to buy new tires for a vehicle & possibly a hot tub so potential Costco savings could be significant.
