Petro-Canada offers the Petro-Points loyalty program. Members can collect points and exchange them for fuel, car repair and store purchases at any of the 1,500 Suncor branded gas stations.
There is no annual membership fee associated with the Petro-Points program. Sign up at a station to receive a card immediately. Signing up online gives the option to print a temporary card until one arrives in the mail. In each instance, an online account will need to be created and the card number registered. Rewards are redeemed using the online account.

Earning Petro-Points
Accumulating Petro-Points works just like most loyalty rewards program; just swipe your card when making eligible purchases. Points are earned in the following increments:

Bonus Petro-Points
Special offers during promotional periods allow members to collect double, triple, five times or more bonus points on select items such as fuel, car wash cards, and lottery purchases.
Members registering the Petro-Points card with a valid email address will also receive an extra 2,500 points.
CIBC Petro-Points Mastercard
The CIBC Petro-Points Mastercard allows cardholders to save $0.02 per litre of fuel when filling up at Petro-Canada with no annual fee. Upon first use of the card, holders earn 15,000 bonus points and earn an additional 10 Petro-Points for every dollar spent outside of Petro-Canada. Every month, 5,000 bonus points are awarded if credit card purchases exceed $1,000.

Canadian Automobile Association (CAA) In Ontario And British Columbia
Registering your Ontario or British Columbia CAA membership number with the account will allow members to collect 20% more Petro-Points with every purchase made at Petro-Canada when swiping the membership card.
Discount Car And Truck Rentals
Members can collect and redeem points on vehicle rentals at Discount. 10 Petro-points are awarded for every $1 spent on a vehicle rental when swiping the Petro-Points card.

Members can collect points when booking travel with itravel2000.com. 10 points are awarded for every $1 spent on package vacations, cruises, flights, hotels and car rentals. 2 times the points are awarded if the travel is booked using the CIBC Petro-Points Mastercard.
SPC Card
Registering your SPC card with the online account will allow members to earn 20% more points on purchases made at Petro-Canada.
Asking Canadians
Members who join the AskingCanadians online panel of consumers share their opinions on products and services receive a bonus 2,000 points. Points are also awarded for each survey that is completed.
Redeeming Your Points
Redeeming points is easy. Simply present the membership card at a station and mention that you’d like to redeem the points for the desired reward. Members can also log into the online account to choose rewards. The rewards redeemable are displayed below and the rate of return is calculated for every 10 Petro-Points.

Getting The Most Value
A Canadian family that spends $2000 on $1.05/L regular grade fuel a year would accumulate 9500 Petro-Points without factoring in promotional bonus point collection periods. It some cases, it could take several years to accumulate enough points for high value rewards, so what is the best way use the points?
The best use of Petro-Points are the car wash rewards, topping out at 1.57% for The Works. The Wash & Go cards, Season Passes and Ontario CAA membership represent the next best rate of return, however require tens of thousands in points which would take years to accumulate. The worst way to spend Petro-Points are on assorted gift cards and the $500 off travel from itravel.com, which gives you a 0.20% return. Your best bet is to stick with the car washes!

In-store and digital rewards netted a surprisingly high return, but are likely not the best use of reward points given that concessions and digital items usually go on sale. As a result, both categories have been taken out of the running.
Preventing Points From Expiring
Petro-Points will not expire as long as you are an active member. If an account is inactive for 12 consecutive months, all accumulated points associated with the account will be forfeit.
Exchanging Petro-Points
Cathay Pacific’s Asia Miles
Petro-Points can be exchanged for Cathay Pacific’s Asia miles which can be redeemed for rewards including travel and merchandise. This is a one way exchange where Petro-Points can be converted in increments of 10,000 for 1,000 Asia Miles.
Are They Worth It?
Spending $2,000 for one year’s worth of fuel would net you one free car wash; not a very big incentive! Like most rewards programs you will do better if you focus on maximizing bonuses and promotions. However, this program probably still isn’t worth it unless you only buy your gas at Petro Canada.
The Esso Extra program, on the other hand, will get you almost 4 car washes with the same spending if you purchase only regular fuel and don’t take advantage of bonuses. If you buy premium fuel, that number triples to nearly 12 car washes. One free $10 car wash per month isn’t a bad deal considering you don’t have to do much to earn them!

Glad you've found better credit card options Leon. Petro points really could use a bump up in value I think as right now they just don't provide enough incentive to convince anyone to buy their gas there if they crunch the numbers.
Sounds the way you are redeeming them is about the best you could hope for in terms of value.
